If you purchased a new Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge, you might be looking forward to rooting the device and customizing it to your heart’s content. Normally we’d say go for it but, this time, you might want to reconsider — at least, if you want to use one of the phone’s flagship features.

According to SamMobile, it was discovered during Samsung Pay trials recently that the service won’t work on rooted Samsung devices. Now the benefits of rooting might outweigh the pros of using your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge as a mobile wallet, but Samsung Pay is a pretty compelling service. In the U.S., it will work at both magnetic terminals and NFC-based check-out terminals, which means it should be supported in most places you shop, and perhaps more places than Apple Pay.

Just a word of warning in case you want to try the service and you’ve been wondering whether or not to root. If you don’t care about the mobile wallet stuff — go for it.
